Although a good debator should be able to debate well on anything from sports to religion, from sociology to the first amendment, and etc.

Although a good debator should be able to debate well on anything from sports to religion, from sociology to the first amendment, and etc. A good knowledge in a certain Subject, Topic or debate ensures you know what you are talking about.

This is simpler and more probable.
